Each year Mareena Purslowe & Associates holds a special Mother's Day memorial service to commemorate the special role that the mothers and mother-figures who are no longer with us have played in our lives.
The origins of Mother's Day dates back to the ancient Roman festival of Matronalia which celebrated the Goddess of childbirth, Juno. The first ‘modern’ Mother's Day was organised in 1908 by Anna Jarvis in memory of her own mother, a social activist and peace crusader.
However, these days Mother’s Day is traditionally a day where we celebrate a mother’s love for her family, her guidance, strength and humour.
For some families this may be a difficult time as they remember and reflect on the precious memories they have of their departed mothers and mother figures. For many it is important to maintain the ritual of Mother’s Day, even after the mother-figures have passed away.
The special memorial service honours all mothers, grandmothers and honorary mums who have nurtured and raised families. Also welcome at the service are mothers who have experienced the loss of a child.
After the service refreshments are served, giving people a chance to talk to each other, sharing their experiences, and speaking to a Mareena Purslowe lady. Services such as these are an important part of the care provided to families by Mareena Purslowe & Associates after the funeral is over.
