Funeral Arranger - Mareena Purslowe Subiaco
Meet Kathy
How long have you been a funeral arranger?
From the age of 15, I felt a strong pull toward working in a funeral home and even requested to complete my work experience in one, though that request was declined. I'm still not entirely sure where that early calling came from, but it never left me.
As a young adult, I approached several funeral homes seeking an opportunity. It wasn't until later, however, that the right moment presented itself. I officially began my career in the funeral industry in July 2002, undertaking all aspects of the role under the guidance and mentorship of Mareena Purslowe herself.
After spending several years living overseas, I returned to Perth in 2022. My passion for the profession led me back to the funeral industry and in 2025 I proudly joined Mareena Purslowe funerals to continue this meaningful work.
What do you like about being a funeral arranger?
I find deep purpose in helping families understand the funeral process, guiding them with clarity and compassion. It is a privilege to bring a sense of ease and reassurance during one of the most emotionally challenging times in their lives.
Sharing in such a sacred moment with each family is something I hold in the highest regard. I value the opportunity to witness and participate in a diverse range of cultural rituals and to observe the unique ways families move through their grief.
I am always mindful that we have only one chance to honor a life with the utmost respect and care. Working collaboratively as a team to ensure that each family's wishes are fulfilled to the highest standard.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy yoga for the grounding and balance it brings, both mentally and physically. Cycling is another passion of mine, my fold-up bike gives me the freedom to explore wherever I need or want to go. I also find great joy in spending time in the ocean, simply relaxing and connecting with nature.
What's one thing people don't know about you?
In 2004, I proudly achieved my 2ndBlack Belt in Freestyle Tae Kwon Do. I also spent several years working in a whisky distillery in the Scottish Highlands, where I developed a deep appreciation for the craft. It's remarkable what can be created from just barley, water, and yeast.
In my youth, I was incredibly fortunate to travel extensively thanks to my Dad's line of work. As a family, we often packed our bags and explored Europe, the Middle East and the USA. That early exposure to the world sparked a lifelong love of travel that continues to this day. While it's difficult to choose a single favourite destination, visiting Disneyland as a teenager remains a treasured memory.
What makes Mareena Purslowe Funerals special?
What makes Mareena Purslowe Funerals truly special is its remarkable legacy, one that began with the Purslowe family in the early 1900s and continues today with the same dedication to care, dignity and compassion. I am also deeply grateful to the pioneering women of the early 1990s who helped open doors for women like me to enter and flourish in the funeral industry.
Another defining quality is the ability to offer beautifully designed onsite spaces where families can create a farewell that genuinely reflects their wishes. These spaces allow for personal, meaningful and unique tributes ensuring every family has the opportunity to honor their loved one exactly as they envision.
Honoured to
stand beside you as you say farewell
We recently worked with Erin from Mareena Purslowe Funerals, Subiaco, and found the service to be exceptional. We had very clear guidance from Mum on how she wanted her service, so when we experienced the attention to detail and ability to lead with clarity and empathy from Erin, I felt confident that we were achieving Mum’s every wish. We were thrilled with all aspects of preparation; everything was taken care of and on the day we could be fully present with Mum. It was a very positive experience during a difficult time.
